ARTISTS, ASSEMBLE!

Artist Danny Schlitz recently assembled a group of fellow creatives to take on the challenge of producing 40 pieces of art to celebrate the epicness that is Avengers: Endgame. Below is what he has to say about the project along with all the incredible art created by artists from all over the world. Enjoy.

“Earlier this summer I was trying to find a way to make an Avengers Endgame poster that included all of the Avengers, plus supporting characters. From making an Infinity War poster a few months earlier and facing the challenges of trying to cram in all the characters it was quite a task”.

“I was reminded of one of my favorite series of covers from Marvel in 1986 25th anniversary. These included all the Marvel heroes surrounding a portrait of that issues main character. The Wolverine portrait from the Uncanny X-men issue #211 had an imprint on my brain for years. I believed that this would be a perfect way to get all the avengers into one poster and tipping my hat to Marvel comics”.

“For a bonus, I was hoping I could get a few artists to make their own portraits with the frame artwork. To my surprise everyone I asked said yes. The idea of this collaborative project just grew to the point that we didn’t want to let it run wild. We didn’t want to have multiple Captain America’s, unlike Endgame! With thanks to Bella Grace we chose to organize around a Google doc and create a schedule”.

“After we got somewhat organized every artist brought their A-game and produced amazing art. We added new artists as we went along and made new friends. A community really began to form and we all found a lot of mutual respect for each other and each other’s art. I knew all of these artists from a distance, but now we communicate regularly”.

“And since this tribute project came out so well, we decided to work on future collaborations. But that’s for another time;)”.

“It was pretty cool being asked to contribute to Danny Schlitz’s Artists Assemble project. Not only had I been a fan of his work for a while I’d also be standing shoulder to shoulder with a group of incredible artists, some of which had inspired me massively when I discovered the alternative poster scene. Initially I couldn’t decide between choosing Spider-Man or Okoye. Spider-Man as he’s one of my favourite characters from the comics and Okoye as she’d not only be a challenge to digitally paint but is also so badass. Luckily I got the opportunity to make both!”.

I really wanted her strength to reflect in the portrait as much as possible by suiting her in her badass mohawk and using vivid colours to express this.
